Ottawa: A Date by Kate highlights the fun things to do around Hintonburg specifically. It may not be a huge neighbourhood, but it's mighty and packed with amazing date spots.
DANCE LIKE NO ONE IS WATCHING
Can I dare you to do this one? Somewhere, anywhere – just start dancing! And if you're shy, pick an alley way or tuck yourselves behind some trees. Bonus points if you tuck your phone in your pocket with a favourite song playing.
DOG PARK HANGOUTS
Lemieux Island is a great spot to go if you wish you had a dog, and want to play with them! In the summer a lot of people slack line there too. Add a balancing act to your fun afternoon?
Play some frisbee or hopscotch, or throw a blanket down and read. The older I get, the more romantic reading together is!
TINY COST DATES
THE RECORD CENTRE
Peruse through stacks of records, and catch an album release show at the same time! Click here to see their events page.
STELLA LUNA GELATO
Grab an award-winning flavour. Or, get three flavours each and then you can try SIX.
BOWLING AT WEST PARK LANES
It's only $16.50 per person including shoes. Fil's Diner is right there too if you get hungry.
KARAOKE AT THE THIRD
On a Friday night, this is the best place to be. Choose from thousands of songs and let your screechy cat voice shine!
On Saturday night for a small cover fee, you can have a dance party together. Jacs, an alternative folk artist, plays there on Wednesday nights too and her voice is unreal.
HINTONBURG PUBLIC HOUSE
Let there be art shows, DJ nights, beer tastings, board game nights, scavenger hunts, and long weekend brunches. There is always something fun happening at HPH. <3
TOOTH & NAIL BREWERY
Try a new brew, and remember that Hoppy Hour is Monday to Friday from 4 - 6 pm. You get $2 off all T&N beer!
IRON NORTH STUDIO
Choose whether you want to pedal, run, lift, or stretch this summer. Drop in classes are $20, and be sure to check out their community events like their Run to Beer speaker series. More info here.
Stumble upon this shop filled with pieces made by artisans across Canada. They carry the best collection of cards I've seen to date. FYI.
Drop-in swimming is only $5 whenever there's a lane swim happening. Race time?
This is a GREAT double date idea – brewery tours! There used to be just one of two options, and now there are so many different ones. Take a look here.
Ever thought about making your own underwear? They coin this class the ultimate 'sew instead of doing laundry' project. Beginner classes are around $60.
Here's an idea for this small plates & drinks spot – let your server surprise you with their favourite bottle of wine. Pretend you're a connoisseur, and "Learn How to Taste Wine and Develop Your Palate" here.
SUPPLY & DEMAND
My favourite discovery, although I have yet to do this, is S&D's pasta making class. Here's what they write about the experience they offer, "After our class, we return to the dining room to enjoy the pasta we've made, in a three course, family-style meal, accompanies by wine pairings selected exclusively by Emma." The cost for evening is $165 + tax.
